FAQ

What are HS codes?
HS codes (Harmonized System Code) are international product classification numbers established by the World Customs Organization (WCO). Used for customs procedures and trade statistics, Japan uses 9-digit codes.
How do I look up import/export statistics data from an HS code?
On Kouro, click the "Search trade data" button on each HS code page to immediately analyze the import/export statistics for that code.
What is the difference between 9-digit and 6-digit HS codes?
6-digit HS codes are internationally standardized (Subheading level). 9-digit codes (statistical codes) are Japan-specific, more detailed classifications used in Japan's customs statistics.
How many types of HS codes are there?
There are 97 2-digit chapters, about 1,200 4-digit headings, about 5,000 6-digit subheadings, and over 9,000 9-digit statistical codes used in Japan.
