Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about Kouro, answered

What is the source of the data?
We use Japan's General Trade Statistics (customs.go.jp) published by the Ministry of Finance. Because we use official data as-is, highly reliable analysis is possible. Major commodities (machinery, electronics, automobiles, etc.) have been cross-verified against official figures, and all HS chapters 01–97 are included.
Is there any data not covered?
"Special goods" in the Ministry of Finance General Trade Statistics — such as traveler goods, repaired goods, and re-exports — are not included. These are not provided in the customs commodity search system and may account for roughly 10% of total monthly exports. Standard HS commodity trade analysis (HS chapters 01–97) is not affected. Recent months are ingested as preliminary figures and automatically updated when final figures are published.
How often is the data updated?
Data is automatically updated to the latest figures in line with the Ministry of Finance trade statistics release schedule. Typically, the previous month's data becomes available in the middle of the following month.
What can I do with the free plan?
The free plan allows basic search and trend analysis using the last 6 months of data. To use data export and advanced analysis features, an upgrade to the Pro plan is required.
What industries use Kouro?
Kouro is used across a wide range of industries involved in exports and imports, including trading companies, logistics firms, market research companies, and manufacturers. It is used for tracking market trends, competitive analysis, and demand forecasting.
What is an HS code?
HS codes are internationally standardized commodity classification codes. By classifying goods with a universal numbering system, trade statistics can be accurately compared and analyzed across countries. Kouro supports hierarchical search from 2-digit to 9-digit HS codes.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept credit card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). We use Stripe's secure payment system, and card information is never stored on our servers.
Can I cancel the Pro plan at any time?
Yes, you can cancel at any time. After cancellation, you retain full access until the end of your billing period. There are no cancellation fees.
Is API access available?
Pro plan users can access data via REST API. Use it for integration with your own systems or automated data retrieval. See the documentation for details.
Why do quantity units differ by product?
In Japan's trade statistics, each product (HS code) is assigned a specific quantity unit determined by the Ministry of Finance. For example, passenger cars use NO (number of units), grains and chemicals use MT (metric ton = 1,000 kg), clothing and machinery parts use KG (kilogram), timber uses CM (cubic meter), integrated circuits use TH (thousand pieces), and gemstones use CT (carat). When you switch products in the analysis view, the quantity and unit price units update accordingly. See the full unit reference table in the Analysis Features Guide.
